The Bona Resilient Floor System is a professional process for deep cleaning, preparing and recoating suitable resilient floors such as LVT, vinyl, PVC, rubber, linoleum and some safety flooring.
It is not the same as a normal floor clean. It is used where cleaning alone is unlikely to give the result needed, but full replacement may not be the most sensible first option.
The important word is suitable. Before recommending a Bona RFS-style approach, Safe Space Cleaning would need to assess the floor, the surface condition, the previous maintenance history, the level of wear and what result the customer realistically needs.
Our judgement would not be based on whether a floor looks tired in a photograph alone. A resilient floor can look poor because it is dirty, because the finish has worn, because the wrong maintenance product has been used, or because the material itself has reached the end of its useful life. Those are four different conversations.
Resilient floors are chosen because they are practical. LVT, vinyl, PVC, rubber, linoleum and safety flooring are used in homes, offices, schools, healthcare spaces, retail units, hospitality venues and public buildings because they can cope with daily use.
But hard-wearing does not mean maintenance-free.
Over time, a resilient floor can start to look dull, scuffed, patchy or difficult to keep clean. Sometimes the problem is soil and residue. Sometimes the surface finish has worn. Sometimes old maintenance products are causing the floor to look worse than it is. Sometimes the floor is damaged and no coating system should be sold as a cure.
Bona Resilient Floor System sits in the middle of that decision.
It may be appropriate when the floor is fundamentally worth keeping, but cleaning alone is not enough. It may help extend the life of suitable floors, improve presentation and avoid premature replacement. But it should only be recommended after assessment.
The best resilient floor advice does not start with a product. It starts with a question: is this floor dirty, worn, damaged, poorly maintained or genuinely ready for replacement?
Those are different problems. Treating them as the same problem is how customers spend money on the wrong solution.
One of the most useful things Safe Space can do at enquiry stage is slow the decision down. If the floor only needs a proper clean, we should not dress that up as restoration. For commercial floors, the best question is not “Can this be made perfect?”.
It is “Can this floor be made good enough, safely enough and durably enough to justify keeping it in service?”.
That is a more useful question for facilities managers because it connects the cleaning decision to budget, downtime and building use.
